British American Tobacco UK has an exciting opportunity for a SENIOR TECHNOLOGIST – HEALTH IMPACT MODELLING in Southampton

What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?   

The main objective of this role is to work collaboratively with project teams both internally/externally to support the delivery of modelling workstreams designed to investigate the potential impact of BAT’s products on population health outcomes. This will involve engaging with partners, analysing data, collating and evaluating data inputs, and implementation of best practices across all aspects.   

What is the direct impact of this role on the team or organization?  

This role is part of the Global Life Science’s Clinical and Behavioural Sciences sub-function. The role of Global Life Science is to drive the science program for BAT and to provide scientific evidence for BAT’s products in support of tobacco harm reduction initiatives and regulatory priorities. The Health Impact Modelling team is responsible for delivering various computational modelling workstreams designed to evaluate the potential impact of BAT’s products on population health outcomes, as part of the tobacco harm reduction program and for potential regulatory requirements. 

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Support delivery of key population modelling projects.
  • Literature searching, data collation and analysis to support modelling requirements. 
  • Work with internal/external partners to identify data requirements.
  • Maintain and build effective working relationships with internal partners external vendors/collaborators.
  • Implementation of data best practices.
  • Work collaboratively within the Population Health & Consumer Behaviour team to support study delivery.

What are we looking for?

  • Experience in data review, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Familiar with programming languages (e.g. SAS, Matlab, R, and/or Python)  
  • Adapting to take on new tasks and apply existing knowledge to problem solving. 
  • Working on multiple workstreams and able to plan & prioritise tasks. 
  • Able to work as part of team and ability to function independently as well as work within a team, demonstrating flexibility and ability to coordinate projects across various partners. 
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Excellent time management and team collaboration skills.  
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • Bachelor’s / master’s degree ideally in Biology, Chemistry, Statistics, Data Science or related field.
